🎸 Raquel & The Wildflowers Bring the Summer Vibes to Goodland’s Park 'n Play 🎶

It was the unofficial start to summer in Sherman County, and NWKS Radio was right in the middle of it! On Friday, we brought our Rolling Radio to Chambers Park in Goodland for the kickoff of the Park 'n Play summer series, hosted by Sherman County Community Development (SCCD). These family-friendly Friday events take place on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of the month through the summer — and we couldn’t have asked for a better way to launch the season.

Live music, food trucks, sunshine, and a crowd full of lawn chairs and smiling faces — and to top it off, Raquel & The Wildflowers took the stage with high-energy country rock straight from Hudson Valley, New York.

But before they played, the band joined Joel Navarro live on FlyOver Country 97.9 for an on-air chat from our Rolling Radio setup. And yes — we confirmed that she’s Raquel, and they’re the Wildflowers.

🎤 During the interview, Raquel shared that the band blends country, rock, and a mix of originals and fan-favorite covers. With a new album just released, they’ve been hitting the road hard — and we’re thrilled Goodland made the tour list. She also gave some insight into the indie grind: "Writing’s one thing, but funding a release... now that’s the real challenge,” she laughed.

🎸 Guitarist Luis, who’s been with the band since the beginning in 2019, cited influences like Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, and The Allman Brothers. Meanwhile, drummer Tyler (jokingly mistaken for Thomas Rhett) called Dave Grohl his biggest inspiration — a nod to Foo Fighters' legacy and Grohl’s impact on modern rock.

📱 The band also talked about how social media has changed the music game. “It’s a great tool for visibility,” Raquel noted, “but it’s a full-time job in itself.”

Joel wrapped up by inviting listeners to stick around, grab a bite from the food trucks, sip some coffee or tea, and enjoy the show — and let’s just say, Raquel & The Wildflowers did not disappoint.

📻 And yes — you’ll be hearing Raquel & The Wildflowers on-air soon. We’re proud to support touring artists who bring live music to our corner of the map. Thanks for making the trip to Western Kansas, Raquel & The Wildflowers — come back anytime!
