The NWKS Radio Area Game of the Week returned last Friday night, September 4th, in St. Francis as the Indians hosted the Rawlins County Buffaloes in the Yolk Bowl. Last year's contest was a close one, but this year was a little different, as the Buffaloes defend the yolk with a convincing win, 30-0.

It was a very rough start to the game for both teams, as St. Francis punts on their first two possessions and Rawlins County committed a turnover on downs for their first possession, then threw an interception on their next.

The second quarter is where the Buffs started to get hot, as star quarterback Dominique Paz connected to Justice Farr for a 31-yard passing Touchdown which gave Rawlins County their first score of the game. They would put up another touchdown in the second quarter from running back Ryan Micek. At the half, the Buffaloes had a 14-0 lead.

The offensive struggles continued for St. Francis in the second half, as throughout the game, they only converted one first down on a fake punt. In the third quarter, Rawlins County was able to put up another score, this time from running back Tanner Lankas, to extend their lead even more, 22-0.

Defense would stay at a premium for the Buffaloes throughout the rest of the game, shutting down the Indian offense and leaving them scoreless. A second score from Micek would also be added towards the end of the fourth quarter, giving us the final score of 30-0.

Unfortunately for the St. Francis Indians, the overwhelming defense and methodical offense of the Rawlins County Buffaloes was too much to handle. The Buffaloes put up nearly 300 yards of total offense, 242 in the run game and 54 through the air. Some top stat havers for Rawlins County included Ryan Micek with 16 carries for 70 yards and 2 rushing touchdowns, Tanner Lankas with 17 carries for 73 yards and 1 rushing touchdown, and Justice Farr with 2 receptions for 34 yards and a receiving touchdown. Quarterback Dominique Paz rushed for 66 yards on 10 carries and went 3/5 passing for 48 yards and a passing touchdown, despite not playing after the early minutes of the second quarter with an injury.

The next matchup for the NWKS Radio Area Game of the Week is between the Golden Plains Bulldogs and the Cheylin Cougars. You can listen to the game Friday, September 11th, on Flyover Country 97.9, with kickoff at 6 pm MT / 7 pm CT.
