Richard (Dick) Allen Nelson was born in Goodland, Kansas on November 1, 1935 to Freida (Hansen) and John T. Nelson. Dick was the third of five boys. He had two older brothers, Arthur and Robert; and two younger brothers, Donald and John.

Dick grew up on the Nelson farm northeast of Kanorado and attended Kanorado grade school and high school. He graduated high school in 1954. After graduation Dick continued working on the family farm. Farming and ranching were his passion, especially taking care of the livestock. Dick continued to work on the farm until he retired and moved to Goodland. Even after selling most of the farm ground he still loved to drive out to the farm and soak in the sunshine.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents John T. and Freida Nelson, and his brothers Arthur, Robert, and Donald. He is survived by his brother John; his nephews and nieces, Shawn (Connie) Nelson, Shari Torson, James Nelson, Art (Sheila) Nelson, Valerie (Philip) Dunn, Bonnie (Allen) Billings, Donald Nelson, Dale (Kris) Nelson, Bob (Christy) Nelson, Kerry (Deborah) Nelson; and many great nephews and nieces.

Memorial contributions may be made out to the Kanorado Senior Center or to the Kanorado Fire Department and may be left at the services or mailed to Koons-Russell Funeral Home, 211 N. Main Ave., Goodland, KS 67735.
