It was a long night of severe weather across the NWKS Radio listening area Monday, June 8, 2026, as storms developed in eastern Colorado late in the afternoon and continued pushing into northwest Kansas through the overnight hours.

The first severe thunderstorm warnings were issued shortly after 4 p.m. Mountain Time in eastern Colorado. Storms near Boyero, Wild Horse, Aroya, Kit Carson and Cheyenne Wells produced large hail, strong winds and heavy rain. Ping pong ball size hail was reported in Kit Carson.

By early evening, storms began impacting northwest Kansas. Severe thunderstorm warnings were issued for parts of Norton and Graham counties, with storms near Lenora, Edmond, Logan and Almena. Around 6:30 p.m. Central Time, another severe storm moved toward St. Francis, bringing the threat of 60 mph winds and half-dollar size hail.

The severe weather continued through the evening across Yuma, Kit Carson, Cheyenne, Sherman and Thomas counties. A Tornado Warning was issued around 7:25 p.m. Mountain Time for central Yuma County near Eckley. The warning expired about 20 minutes later after the tornado threat weakened.

Later in the night, storms strengthened again near the Kansas-Colorado line. Around 9 p.m. Mountain Time, a storm near Kanorado moved east toward Ruleton and Goodland. By 9:38 p.m., a Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued for central Sherman County and west central Thomas County, including Goodland and Brewster. Golf ball size hail was reported west of Goodland, and the storm had the potential for hail up to two inches and 60 mph winds.

That storm continued east toward Brewster, Levant, Colby and Gem late Monday night. Northern Thomas County remained under a warning into the early morning hours Tuesday, with 60 mph winds, quarter-size hail, heavy rain and accumulating hail possible.
