Sheila Rose Hastings 57, passed away suddenly at her home in Burlington, Colorado on August 8, 2026. Sheila was born on November 15, 1968, to Denny Wayne and Ethel Phyllis Edmondson in Fort Morgan, Colorado.

From a young age, Sheila enjoyed being outside and spending her days following her sister Tina, riding bikes around town, and helping her dad take care of the dogs he raised. She spent her days after school helping in her dad's small engine repair shop cleaning, running the counter for the bus stop, and eventually changing oil on customers' equipment. She loved playing the Violin in her high school Orchestra and was a talented singer.

She met Bruce Bass shortly after high school while working at Pizza Hut. The two were married June 25, 1988, in Fort Morgan, Colorado. Their union was blessed with the birth of their daughter Lynnette Ann in 1989, then Kevin Wayne in 1991. Together they raised their children south of Brush. The family was heavily involved in 4-H. Together they spent mornings and evenings in the barn working the kid's show lambs and goats for the county and state fair. In the winter they had a small ewe flock and would raise their own show lambs.

From early on in her marriage to Bruce, she was always crocheting. From crocheting, she then learned how to Needlepoint, which then led her to her greatest passion for Quilting. Sheila spent countless hours, nights, and weekends doing what she loved. Over the years hundreds of quilts, wall hangings, table runners, and baby blankets were made by Sheila with love. Their union ended in 2011.

In August of 2011 she met John Warren Hastings, and the two were married in Las Vegas, Nevada on December 9, 2011. They lived most of their marriage in Brush, Colorado. They spent their early days together traveling to Ranch Rodeos and helping with cattle brandings that John helped and participated in. She enjoyed helping, as well as cooking meals for everyone. Together they also enjoyed catering for benefits and Ranch Roping's. They enjoyed cooking together and creating and trying new recipes. Most weekends and nights you could count on having baked goods in the oven. They enjoyed traveling and visiting quilt shops, adding to her extensive collection of fabric, patterns, and thread. She always believed she had the perfect project for that piece of fabric. She took over the dining room table, sometimes not to be seen until the company arrived, as that was her quilting table. When not quilting or baking, you could always find her wrapped in one of her quilts reading. She loved to read almost as much as quilting. Her favorite author was Clive Cussler; she owned every book he wrote.

Sheila worked as a Dispatcher for Morgan County from 1991 until 2005. The kids grew up knowing to let Mom sleep during the day when she was on graveyard shifts. Despite shift work, she was always there for her kids' events. At one point in time, her children and some nieces and nephews made the accidental phone call to 911 to talk with Sheila. She left dispatch when the kids were older to work at Eben Ezer Lutheran Care Center as an administrative assistant from 2005 till 2007. This allowed her to be there for the kids during their high school career. In 2007 a position opened to be the Chief of Police's Administrative Assistant; she did that until 2014, when she was called back to be a Dispatcher. She loved the ability to be there for people in their time of need. She retired from Morgan County Dispatch in 2024, when she and John made the decision to move to Burlington, CO to be near her daughter. While in Burlington she had a short time in learning the Real Estate business but then found her next true calling was to work in insurance. Though her time was short at State Farm, she worked extremely hard to learn about this new career and was looking forward to serving all who came to her for help.

Her greatest blessing in life was to be a grandmother. She was blessed with 8 beautiful grandchildren. Krislynn May (14), Kwinton Eli (13), Braden David (11), Kirby Katherine (9), Oliver Owen (8), Kooper Kelten (7), Kalli Rose (3) and Logynn Lynn (5 months). She was there for both her kids when they became parents and loved being able to come help them in the early days of bringing their babies home. In the eyes of many other children, she will always be known as Grammy Sheila.

Sheila is survived by her husband John, Her children Lynnette (Bradley) Hertneky of Burlington, CO, Kevin (Katie) Bass of Kingfisher, OK. and stepdaughter Savanah Hastings, her grandchildren as mentioned above and her siblings Sherri, Debbie, Rodney, Stanley and Tina, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents Denny and Ethel Edmondson.
