Tuesday morning on the Good Neighbor Hour, Sherman County Economic Development Director Bert Mosier joined Rollie Halligan to share what’s happening across Sherman County — and there’s a lot going on.
One thing listeners appreciate about Bert’s regular Tuesday visits? He keeps the community informed — and reminds everyone that if you have an idea, Sherman County Community Development is here to help make it happen.
Funding Opportunities for Businesses — Big or Small
Sherman County is already an official e-Community through Network Kansas, which gives local entrepreneurs access to funding that many other counties are still applying for.
That means real dollars are available right now:
E-Community Loan – Up to $50,000
Network Kansas 150 Loan – Up to $100,000
Kansas 25 Program – Funding for projects over $150,000
Terms are designed to work with local bankers as gap financing:
4% interest for 5-year repayment
6% interest for 10-year repayment
Flat-rate interest
No penalty for early payoff
Whether you’re expanding an existing business, launching something new, or even starting up a mowing company that needs equipment, there are programs ready to assist.
Sherman County Community Development has been operating for five to six years as a 501(c)(3), allowing the organization to accept and distribute grant funding to strengthen the community.
Main Street Improvements & Facade Grants
Bert also highlighted the continued impact of the façade grant program. Although the most recent round officially closed in January (after a brief delay due to judges being ill), several businesses received assistance last year — and more improvements are expected this year.
If you’ve noticed new windows, awnings, and exterior updates on Main Street, there’s a good chance Community Development played a role.
The organization is actively working to secure additional funds so even more projects can move forward.

Welcome to Main Street Marketplace
There’s also a new addition to downtown Goodland.
Main Street Marketplace, located just south of Kansasland Tire in the former NAPA building, has opened its doors. The multi-vendor space features crafts, confections, gifts and more.
Valentine’s Day brought strong foot traffic to the area — a great sign for continued downtown momentum.
A Community That Keeps Reinventing Itself
From the remodeled radio station building (formerly Pizza Hut) to the Welcome Center (once a Sonic), Sherman County continues to creatively repurpose and reinvest in existing spaces.
As Bert put it: “We’re here to help. And if we don’t know how to help, we’ll figure it out.”
For entrepreneurs, business owners, and anyone with a vision for Sherman County’s future — the door is open.
Tune in to the Good Neighbor Hour with Rollie Halligan Monday thru Friday on RockIt 102.5 from 5:30 to 7 am mst.
