Goodland’s favorite fundraising golf scramble returns this weekend as the Goodland Regional Medical Center Foundation hosts the Slice of Life Golf Tournament on Saturday, September 20th at Sugar Hills Golf Club.
This year’s three-person scramble promises a day of friendly competition, community spirit, and vital support for local healthcare. Registration opens at 8:00 a.m., with a 9:00 a.m. shotgun start. Cost is $100 per golfer, and there’s still room for teams to sign up on the morning of the event.
Supporting Oncology Services
The proceeds from this year’s tournament will go toward Oncology Services at Goodland Regional Medical Center. With the addition of Robert Rodriguez, MD and Oncology PA Amanda Volchko through a partnership with the Western Kansas Oncology Group, local access to cancer care continues to expand.
GRMC has long provided chemotherapy and infusion services, but an increase in patients means new equipment and supplies are needed. Funds from the Slice of Life will directly support those upgrades, ensuring more patients can receive advanced care close to home.
A Tradition of Community and Care
The Slice of Life tournament has a rich history of bringing people together. In past years, the event has even featured special guests from Kansas City and Denver—including athletes and cheerleaders—helping raise awareness and support for rural healthcare.
This year, organizers say they’re excited to see the tradition grow again. While it’s a busy weekend in Goodland with homecoming festivities and school activities, the tournament is structured to keep play moving quickly so everyone can enjoy golf and still make it to community celebrations later in the day.
Perfect Weather for Golf
Saturday’s forecast looks ideal for golf: mostly sunny skies with a high near 84. The course itself has benefited from recent rains, with fresh concrete upgrades to show off as well.
“Leave the tractors parked, grab your clubs, and come out to support a great cause,” organizers said. “It’s going to be a perfect day for golf and community.”
