Thomas R. Herman

Jul 3, 1937 — Oct 3, 2026

Seibert, Colorado

Thomas R. Herman (Dick) son of Opal (Thorton) and Thomas A. Herman was born on July 3, 1937, in Akron, Colorado. He was the second child of six children. He grew up north of Seibert and attended Harmony Country School (which is now in Old Town in Burlington, CO) until the fifth grade. Dick claimed he was the smartest kid in his class. His sisters reminded him that he was the only kid in his class. He then attended Pleasant Valley Country School until the 7th grade before attending school in Seibert where he graduated in 1955.

Dick married Meredyth Hargrove in 1957. To this union 3 children were born; Randal Kent, Konnie Sue and Steven Dale. Next month on November 22nd, Dick and Meredyth would have celebrated 69 wonderful years of their love and happiness together.

Dick worked for many farmers north of Seibert during high school, including the Timm brothers. After graduation, Dick worked on construction crews throughout Colorado building bridges. Dick and Meredyth lived in many places in Colorado and New Mexico before returning to Kit Carson County where Dick joined his brother Don at Esch Lumber building houses. While Dick was working at Esch Lumber he was approached by Walt and Pete Timm and they asked him to rejoin them on their farming operation north of Seibert. Dick’s passion had always been farming, and he leapt at the chance to return to Seibert and do what he loved. Dick and Meredyth moved their little trailer house to the Timm farm, and this was the start of a long relationship between Walt Timm and Dick. During this time Dick built up his own farming operation and his sons have followed his footsteps in farming.

Over his life Dick was very involved in serving and supporting his community, school and church. Dick served on many community boards including Hi-Plains School Board, Seibert Equity Coop Board, Seibert Volunteer Fire Department, United Methodist Church, Community of Christ Church, Seibert Ambulance Committee, and a longtime member of the Morning Coffee Shop Gang. Dick and Meredyth enjoyed attending all the sporting activities of their children and grandchildren. Rare was the time that their children or grandkids were participating in an event that they were not there supporting and encouraging them. Even after their last grandchild graduated, you would still find them in the stands cheering on the teams from Hi-Plains. In honor of this continued support, Dick and Meredyth were recognized by the YWKC League for the Fan Appreciation award.

Dick is preceded in death by his parents Tom and Opal Herman. In-laws; Dale and Vioda Hargrove, Don and Velda Geiger, sisters Norma Herman and Dixie Mullen. Brothers in law Larry Fadenrecht, Corky Patterson, Delmar Mullen, Lynn Fisher, Jim Smith and great nephew Michael Manty.

Dick is survived by wife his Meredyth, children Randal Herman (Carla), Konnie Ford (Mike), Steve Herman (Pam). Siblings Don Herman (Marlyn), Darlene Fadenrecht, Donna Mae Herman. Sister in laws Iris Fisher, Deana Smith. Grandchildren Kent Herman (Amanda), Cole Ford (Shannon), Austin Ford (Brittani), Talia Colglazier (Conner), Hanna Hase (Austin), great granddaughter Eloise Ford, many nieces and nephews.

Dick passed away at his home north of Seibert, Colorado on October 3, 2026 surrounded by family.
