Track Project Moving Forward, National Honor Society Grows at Colby Public Schools

It is already a busy start to the new school year at USD 315 Colby Public Schools, and Superintendent Dr. Kevin Warner shared several updates this week, including significant progress on the new track at Dennen Field.

New Track Moving Closer to Construction

One of the biggest updates is the track project at Dennen Field.

Warner said the USD 315 Board of Education approved a lease agreement Friday to bridge the gap between money and donations already available for the project and the remaining cost. The lease is just under $774,000.

The district has been in contact with the construction company, and Warner said demolition of the existing track could begin as soon as next week.

That means fans attending upcoming Colby Eagle football games may be able to watch the construction process taking place around the field.

Warner also cleared up one question about the new facility: the new track will be an eight-lane track.

That will give Colby the ability to apply to host regional track meets. Warner said there is also interest from surrounding smaller school districts in bringing league meets back to Colby once the project is complete.

The district continues to accept donations toward the track project. Warner said additional donations can help USD 315 pay down the lease while construction moves forward.

Donations can also be directed toward other district programs, including the after-school program and other initiatives within Colby Public Schools.

19 Students Join National Honor Society

Colby High School also celebrated academic achievement this week.

The National Honor Society held its induction ceremony Monday night, welcoming 19 new students into the organization.

Warner said it was exciting to see that many students earn an invitation to National Honor Society, noting the work required to qualify and the community and school involvement that comes with being a member.

Fall Activities Are Underway

The fall sports season is also officially in full swing.

Volleyball, golf and tennis have started their seasons, while Colby Eagle football opened with its jamboree Friday night. The Eagles now prepare to travel to Holyoke, Colorado, for Friday night's game.

With classes underway, construction preparing to begin and fall activities filling the calendar, the 2026-27 school year is quickly getting busy at USD 315 Colby Public Schools.
