Trudy Lynn Wildeman

Trudy Lynn Wildeman

April 19, 1951 — March 22, 2026

Trudy Lynn (Garrett) Wildeman, 74, of Selden, Kansas, passed away on March 22, 2026, after a long and hard-fought battle with cancer and multiple complications. Born on April 19, 1951, to Elmer Garrett and Ferma (Keck) Garrett, Trudy was a woman of incredible strength, independence, and heart.

Trudy grew up on a farm near Levant, Kansas where she spent much of her time riding horses with her dad. She participated in many horse shows, barrel races, and rodeos. She attended school in Colby and graduated with the Class of 1969.

Trudy married Donnie Barnett in 1969. They had two daughters, Terri Lynn (Barnett) Crump and Traci Lea (Barnett) Bruggeman. From the beginning, her daughters were the focus of her world. From school activities to sporting events, she was always there cheering for her girls.

On October 16, 1993, Trudy married Leo Wildeman. They were often found at Mr. C’s dancing and having a good time with friends. Trudy loved and cared for Leo until his passing in June of 2000.

After retiring from Colby Community College, Trudy spent as much time as possible with family. She loved watching her grandchildren’s activities. If she wasn’t with family, Trudy could usually be found in her workshop building little things for craft fairs or taking on bigger projects such as building her deck and working on many other improvements around her home and yard.

In 2016, Trudy sold her home in Colby and moved to Selden with her fifth wheel. She continued spending winters in Arizona with her sister, Una, frequenting the racetrack, visiting the casino, and playing a lot of Yahtzee. In her final years, she lived near Selden where she continued her love of building and fixing things by restoring an old farmhouse that she would eventually call home.

Trudy ended her fight on March 22 with her daughters by her side. She fought with her “Garrett Grit” until the very end. Throughout her battle, Trudy was blessed with tremendous support from family and friends, and she and her family are deeply grateful for all the love, prayers, and support she received.

Trudy was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Ferma; her husband, Leo Wildeman; and her sister, Una Faye (Garrett) Miller.

She leaves behind to carry on her memory her daughters, Terri (Mike) Crump of Wichita and Traci (Greg) Bruggeman of Selden; stepchildren Sean (Jenelle) Wildeman of Vancouver, WA, and Jodi (Brian) Schumacher of Pratt, KS; grandchildren Austin (Brianna) Crump, Braden (Sosa) Crump, Jesse Crump, Tara (Antonio) Corcione, Jenna Wildeman, Joshua Wildeman, Estella (James) Cook, Kain Schumacher, and Will Bruggeman; and five great-grandchildren; and sister Alice Wolf of Colby.

There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at HP Chuckwagon, 1945 Co. Rd. W, Colby KS. Come and go anytime from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and share your memories and stories with family and friends. For information or condolences visit baalmannmortuary.com
