What’s Happening This Week? Rock N Recovery, Oakley Gun Show & More

Another busy week is ahead across the NWKS Radio listening area, and this weekend especially has a little bit of everything.

From a free family event in Colby to guns, coins and collectibles in Oakley, a 150th birthday celebration, glow-in-the-dark golf and college volleyball, here are some of the highlights happening around northwest Kansas September 14–20.

Rock N Recovery Takes Over Fike Park

One of the bigger events of the weekend happens Saturday in Colby as High Point Advocacy & Resource Center hosts Rock N Recovery at Fike Park.

The FREE event begins at 10 a.m. and is designed to be fun for the whole family while also putting a spotlight on recovery.

Rock N Recovery will feature a live soft rock band, recovery interviews, arts and crafts, an inflatable rock-climbing wall, food trucks, local vendors and more.

It’s a chance to enjoy a Saturday at the park while supporting an event centered around recovery, resources and community.

And if you’re already headed to Fike Park, the Thomas County Farmers Market will be happening from 9 a.m. to noon in the northwest corner of the park.

Guns, Coins, Knives & Collectibles in Oakley

Collectors and outdoor enthusiasts will want to make a stop in Oakley this weekend for Oakley’s Annual Gun, Coin, Knife & Collectible Show.

The show will be held at the Western Vista Complex, 306 Sunrise Avenue, and runs Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The annual event is sponsored by Oakley VFW Auxiliary Post 2981 and Oakley Area Tourism.

Whether you collect coins, enjoy browsing collectibles or just like seeing what shows up on the tables each year, you’ll have two days to check it all out.

Colby Visitors Bureau Celebrates 40 Years 🎉

There’s a birthday celebration Wednesday in Colby!

The Colby Visitors Bureau is turning 40 years old and is inviting everyone to stop by the Colby Visitor/Information Center at 2015 S. Range Avenue between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Visitors can grab a cookie and sign the guest book to help celebrate four decades of welcoming people to Colby.

Volleyball, Food and a Little Music

Colby Community College volleyball has a pair of home matches this week at the Colby Event Center. The Trojans take on Seward Community College Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., then return Saturday at 2 p.m. against Cloud Community College.

Thursday night also brings another Cooper Barn Jam in Colby. The third-Thursday tradition runs from 8 to 11 p.m. at the Cooper Barn and is open to everyone.

Friday morning, Homeland Realty & Auction hosts Colby Chamber Coffee with coffee, breakfast treats and conversation while welcoming several businesses to their new location inside the Homeland Realty & Auction building at 1055 S. Range.

Ludell Turns 150!

Now THAT is a birthday worth celebrating.

Ludell will celebrate its 150th with Ludell Days on Saturday. Activities begin at 2 p.m. with a vintage baseball game, followed by a Puzzle Town scavenger hunt, old-fashioned games and more.

The celebration also includes cake, tours and a photo booth before Rascal Martinez takes the stage for a live concert at 7 p.m.

Saturday Night Fun in Goodland

Goodland has a couple of unique events Saturday as well.

The High Plains Museum is hosting a free Trivia Night at the United Telephone Building, with refreshments provided and no advance sign-up required.

Then it’s time to light up the golf course.

The Goodland Police Department is hosting a Glow in the Dark Golf Tournament at Sugar Hills Golf Course. The four-person scramble costs $300 per team with a meal included, and this year’s costume theme is “Best Criminals of Past History.” Proceeds will help the Goodland Police Department purchase a drone.
