If you're traveling to Denver, Colorado Springs, or anywhere in Central Colorado over the next day, or if you live in Eastern Colorado, be prepared for smoky skies and reduced air quality.

Wildfires burning in and around the region, along with smoke drifting into Colorado from other fires, are expected to impact air quality across much of the state. Smoke conditions can change quickly depending on wind patterns.

The National Weather Service and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment have issued an Action Day for Multiple Pollutants.

From National Weather Service
From National Weather Service

Effective: 4:00 PM Tuesday, June 30 through 4:00 PM Wednesday, July 1

Affected counties: Douglas, Jefferson, Denver, western Arapahoe, western Adams, Broomfield, Boulder, Larimer, and Weld.

What to expect:

• Ozone and wildfire smoke may cause air quality to reach the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups category, with particle pollution becoming worse at times.

• Smoke may spread beyond the advisory area, affecting travel through Central Colorado and air quality across Eastern Colorado.

Health information:

• If smoke becomes thick where you are, stay indoors when possible

.• Those most at risk include people with heart or lung disease, young children, older adults, and anyone with respiratory conditions.

• Limit outdoor activities when smoke is moderate to heavy.• If visibility drops below 5 miles because of smoke, air quality has reached unhealthy levels.

.• If smoke enters your home and is making you feel ill, consider temporarily relocating if it is safe to do so.

If you're visiting Colorado, check the latest air quality conditions before hiking, sightseeing, or spending extended time outdoors. Smoke levels can vary significantly from one location to another.

Please help reduce ozone pollution by limiting unnecessary driving with gas and diesel powered vehicles through at least 4:00 PM Wednesday.

Stay informed, stay safe, and check on family, friends, and neighbors who may be more sensitive to poor air quality.
