Busy Weekend Ahead Across Northwest Kansas

There’s no shortage of things to do across the NWKS Radio listening area this weekend. From racing action and concerts to farmers markets, poker runs, health screenings, and family fun, communities across northwest Kansas are gearing up for a packed couple of days.


Friday kicks off with a Blood Drive at Topside Manor Chapel in Goodland from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mountain Time. Later Friday evening, the Goodland Carnegie Arts Center hosts its “Palette Taster” edible art event from 6 to 8:30 p.m. MT, featuring food, drinks, sweets, and creative fun.


Racing fans can head to the Thomas County Speedway Friday night for the first of two nights of IMCA racing action. Hobby stocks, sport mods, stock cars, and modifieds hit the track beginning at 7:30 p.m. Central Time.


Saturday morning starts with the Thomas County Farmers Market from 9 a.m. to noon at Fike Park in Colby, featuring local produce, baked goods, crafts, and more.

Several events in the Goodland area will take place on Mountain Time Saturday. The Goodland Police Department Bicycle and Scooter Rodeo runs from 9 to 11 a.m. MT at Fort Hays Tech Northwest, offering safety checks, bike registration, snacks, and giveaways for kids and families.


Also Saturday morning, the “Sky’s the Limit: Cash and Chrome Poker Run” begins at the Goodland 24/7 Travel Store. Registration starts at 9 a.m. MDT with kickstands up at 9:30 a.m. Riders will make stops in Burlington, Wray, Haigler, and St. Francis during the community fundraiser hosted by Bikes on the Bricks Community Foundation.

In Oakley, free health and cancer screenings will be offered from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Jamboree Foods. Doctors from the University of Kansas Medical Center will provide skin and prostate cancer screenings, while take-home colorectal kits, genetic counseling education, and radon testing kits will also be available. The event is free and open to all ages.


Book lovers can stop by Saddle & Swoon Book Company in Goodland Saturday afternoon where hometown author Jeremy Mills will be signing copies of his new book “Lost in Goodland” from 2 to 5 p.m. MDT.


Saturday evening brings a major fundraiser to Colby as the Western Kansas Child Advocacy Center hosts Casino Night at City Limits Convention Center. Doors open at 5 p.m., supper begins at 5:30, followed by a live auction at 6:15 and gaming from 7 to 10 p.m.


Music fans can also head to Oberlin Saturday evening for “Celebrating America in Song,” presented by the Northwest Kansas Regional Choir. The patriotic concert celebrating 250 years of the United States begins at 6:30 p.m. Central Time at the Gateway Civic Center.

The weekend wraps up with another night of action at the Thomas County Speedway Saturday evening. Racing starts at 6:30 p.m. Central Time and will again feature IMCA classes along with the crowd-favorite Crazy Cruisers.
