The City Limits Convention Center was buzzing with pride and appreciation today as the Colby/Thomas County Chamber of Commerce held its annual banquet — this year in the form of a lively and well-attended luncheon. From honoring outstanding individuals to reflecting on a year of business milestones, it was a celebration of the spirit, success, and service that makes Colby shine.
Lizzie White, Chamber President, welcomed the crowd — which included a full table of NWKS Radio staff — and kicked off the program with highlights from the past Chamber year, which began in April. She shared a long list of Business After 5 events and Ribbon Cuttings — each marking new business openings, expansions, remodels, and important anniversaries that have taken place in Colby over the last 12 months. The message was clear: Colby is growing, and the community is thriving.
The banquet was also a time to recognize some of the most dedicated individuals in our community with the Chamber’s annual awards:

🏅 Community Service Person of the Year was awarded to Bev Vaughn by Chamber Board President Don McKenzie. Bev has served the Colby community through her tireless work with the American Red Cross and numerous other volunteer efforts. Her dedication and compassion continue to make a difference.
🏅 Business Person of the Year was presented by Ambassador President Megan Roemer to Mike Woofter, a local business leader whose past and future investments are helping shape Colby’s economic landscape. He’s also a proud member of the Colby Tree Planting Committee — literally helping Colby grow! Mike Woofter said after being surprised with the award, "I truly love Colby".

🏅 Working Woman of the Year was awarded to LaDonna Sloan, owner of Goulash in downtown Colby, by Chamber Diplomat Wanda Brown. LaDonna’s contributions to downtown development, including her leadership in the Colby Downtown Business Association and Santa City in Fike Park, have brought energy and heart to Main Street. (Sloan was not in attendance.)
The annual Chamber banquet served as both a reflection of the community’s successes and a look ahead at the promising work yet to come. With strong leadership, engaged businesses, and a community that shows up — like they did today — the future is bright for Colby.
Here’s to another year of growth, connection, and celebration in Thomas County!
