SEPT 9, 2026--- It is a busy week at USD 315 Colby Public Schools, with Homecoming activities underway, fall sports in full swing and the much-anticipated new track at Dennen Field getting closer to construction.

Superintendent Dr. Kevin Warner and Activities Director Travis Betz joined NWKS Radio this week with the latest from Colby Public Schools.

New Track Getting Closer to Construction

Excitement continues to build around the new eight-lane track planned for Dennen Field.

Betz thanked the Dennen Track Committee for its work gathering donations and Dr. Warner and the district for helping move the project forward. He said work on the track should begin shortly.

Warner said the project is currently working through the paperwork stages, with hopes of beginning demolition soon.

"Hopefully we can get rolling here pretty quickly," Warner said.

Once work begins, Eagle fans should be able to see the progress happening at Dennen Field throughout the football season.

The new track also opens the door for Colby to once again potentially host regional track meets. Betz said it has been a number of years since Colby hosted a regional and the district would be excited to bring one back to the area.

Hosting major school events is nothing new for Colby. Betz pointed to the Orange & Black Basketball Tournament, a large wrestling tournament and recent regional softball and baseball events as examples of activities that bring students, families and visitors to the community.

Warner said providing opportunities that also give back to the community that supports the school district is an important part of the goal.

It's Homecoming Week!

It didn't take long for one of the biggest weeks of the fall semester to arrive. It's Homecoming Week for the Colby Eagles!

Friday will be a busy day, beginning with the Homecoming parade. A pep rally will follow the parade at Dennen Field before attention turns to Friday night's football game.

The Colby Eagles will take on Southwestern Heights with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m. Southwestern Heights is a new opponent for the Eagles during this scheduling cycle.

Homecoming coronation will take place following the football game, and students will wrap up the celebration Saturday night with the Homecoming dance at Colby High School.

Fall Sports Are Rolling

The fall sports season is also officially underway across the district.

Betz said nearly every Colby athletic team has already competed this season. The middle school football team was the exception after last week's game had to be postponed because of the heat.

That game has been rescheduled, and the middle school Eagles are expected to take the field at Dennen Field this week.

Between Homecoming, fall sports and a major improvement getting closer to reality at Dennen Field, September is already shaping up to be a busy month for Colby Public Schools.
