It’s officially race season in northwest Kansas as the engines roar back to life at the Thomas County Speedway this weekend. During an interview on KXXX 790, Joel Navarro from NWKS Radio caught up with track promoter Jason McIntyre, who says the crew has been hard at work getting the track in top shape and it’s ready to go.
After months of prep work, including track improvements and dialing in moisture for optimal racing conditions, McIntyre says anticipation is high. Drivers from across the region and even as many as nine different states are expected in Colby for opening weekend.

Friday night kicks things off with night one of the Dave Garvin Memorial. Fans can expect late models, sport mods, and hobby stocks, with hot laps starting at 7 p.m. Saturday brings another full night of action with late models, stock cars, modifieds, and the return of the fan favorite crazy cruisers, known for their unpredictable and entertaining races.
McIntyre says the goal is not just great racing, but bringing people to Colby for a full weekend of activities. With multiple events happening around town, visitors can easily make a full weekend out of it.
Admission is $15 for adults, with kids 10 and under getting in free. Pit passes are also available. As a bonus, a limited number of free tickets will be given away at the gate each night to the first fans who mention they heard about it on KXXX.
Looking ahead, the 2026 schedule includes several race weekends through the summer, highlighted by special events like sprint car appearances and fair week races.
McIntyre credits the success of the speedway to strong community support, including the Thomas County Fair Board, local sponsors, and dedicated volunteers who help bring racing back to life each season.
If you’re ready for high speed action, roaring engines, and a packed grandstand, opening weekend at Thomas County Speedway is the place to be.
