Get Out This Week-- Events September 8-13

There is no shortage of things to do across the NWKS Radio listening area this week! From Colby Homecoming and college rodeo action to a big weekend in Hill City and live music in St. Francis, September 8–13 is packed with reasons to get out of the house.

Here are some of the highlights!

It’s Homecoming Week in Colby! 🦅

Break out the orange and black because it is Homecoming Week for the Colby Eagles!

Friday is the big day, including the annual Homecoming Parade Friday afternoon followed by Homecoming football Friday night. The Colby Eagles host Southwestern Heights with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m. Central Time.

And football fans have plenty of other options Friday night. The NWKS Radio Area Game of the Week features Golden Plains at Cheylin in Bird City on FlyOver Country 97.9, while Goodland hosts Burlington on RockIt 102.5.

Graham CAAM Slam Takes Over Hill City 🚗🎨

Hill City is going to be busy this weekend with the 4th Annual Graham CAAM Slam on Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday is loaded with activities including a car show, craft fair, farmers market, food vendors, a kids bouncy house, watermelon contest, Hot Wheels and even Car Limbo. The evening wraps up with Mikkelson’s House Band Friends performing from 8 to 11 p.m.

The fun continues Sunday with the GCAAM Fun Run.

Cars, art, food, music and a whole lot of fun make this one of the big weekend stops in northwest Kansas.

Rock the Park in St. Francis 🎸

Saturday night, St. Francis City Park will turn into an outdoor concert venue for Concert in the Park.

Janelle Irwin gets the music started at 6 p.m., followed by Last Men on Earth at 8 p.m. in the bandshell. The band brings the classic rock favorites with music from Journey, Kansas, Van Halen, Toto, REO Speedwagon and more, plus a little country mixed in.

There will also be food, drink and snack vendors along with games and activities for the kids. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets or grab a spot in the bandshell. A freewill donation will be accepted.

More Happening Around the Area

Wednesday brings Agriculture Tech Day to the Fort Hays Tech | Northwest Water Technology Farm in Goodland. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mountain Time and includes demonstrations of AI-powered spray technology, soil sampling, moisture probes, combine technology, irrigation and water conservation.

A two-day blood drive is also happening at the Colby United Methodist Church Wednesday from noon to 6 p.m. and Thursday from 7:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Colby Community College volleyball hosts Barton Community College Wednesday evening at the Colby Event Center, while Goodland's Back to Church Bash offers a free BBQ Wednesday evening at Chambers Park.

The Colby Community College home rodeo also returns to the Thomas County Fairgrounds Friday through Sunday, bringing three days of NIRA rodeo action to Colby.

Saturday morning includes the Thomas County Farmers Market at Fike Park, and Saturday evening Pioneer Memorial Library hosts Pages in the Park at Fike Park, a low-pressure chance to grab a book, blanket and some fresh air and simply unplug for an hour.Sunday brings a free matinee of “The Goonies” at the Sherman Theatre in Goodland at 2:30 p.m., while the Western Plains Arts Association opens its season with The Jazz Trio at The Gateway in Oberlin at 3 p.m.

Whether you’re cheering on the Eagles, checking out the cars in Hill City, rocking out in St. Francis, watching some rodeo or just looking for something different to do, there is plenty happening around northwest Kansas this week.
