Goodland Police are turning to the community for answers after a hit-and-run incident left a dog dead. Investigators are asking anyone with camera footage from the area to come forward as they work to identify the vehicle involved.
According to a release shared by the Goodland Police Department, officers were dispatched on May 1, 2026, at approximately 4:15 p.m. to the 700 block of West 16th Street for a report of a dog that had been struck.
Authorities say a juvenile was walking their dog on a leash across the street when a red pickup hit the animal in the middle of the roadway. The vehicle did not stop and continued eastbound on 16th Street.
When the incident was first reported, the dog was still alive, but it later died from its injuries.
Officers have canvassed the area and checked nearby security and doorbell cameras in an effort to gather more information about the vehicle. At this time, they are asking residents in the area to review any camera footage recorded between 4:00 p.m. and 4:15 p.m. that may help identify the make and model of the pickup.
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Goodland Police Department or Sherman County Dispatch at 785-890-4575. Tips can also be submitted by messaging the Goodland Police Department through their Facebook page.
Authorities say they appreciate the community’s assistance as the investigation continues.
