GOODLAND - The Colby Eagles struggled to find their footing offensively Friday night as Goodland used explosive passing plays and a strong defensive effort to earn a 50-0 victory in the 106th meeting between the longtime rivals.

The loss dropped Colby to 1-5 overall and 0-4 in Great West Activities Conference play. The Eagles have lost four consecutive games and will look to rebound next week on the road against Ulysses.

Colby entered the game hoping to build on its second-half performance against Holcomb the previous week, but Goodland quickly took control. After the Eagles punted on their opening possession, Colby’s next drive ended in a costly turnover. Neale Morrison’s pass was batted into the air and intercepted by Tresten Mai, who returned it for a touchdown to give the Cowboys an 8-0 lead.

Goodland extended its advantage with a 68-yard touchdown pass from Reid Cure to Jackson Miller. Cure and Miller connected again on a 42-yard touchdown pass on fourth-and-9, putting the Cowboys ahead 22-0.

The Cowboys added one more score before halftime when Cure found Miller for a 19-yard touchdown.

Miller finished the first half with three touchdown receptions as Goodland built a 30-0 lead.

Colby moved the ball into Goodland territory during the first half, including a drive that featured a fourth-down conversion on a screen pass to Sean Wederski. However, the Eagles were unable to turn their opportunities into points.

Goodland opened the second half with an eight-play, 65-yard drive capped by Konner Collett’s 39-yard touchdown run. The Cowboys then recovered an onside kick, putting additional pressure on the Colby defense.

The Eagles eventually forced a turnover on downs, but Goodland added another touchdown after a strong punt return set up Ethan Horinek’s 3-yard scoring run. The Cowboys recovered a second onside kick before Colby began creating opportunities of its own.

Julian Salcido intercepted Cure, and Nathan Cates picked off another pass later in the third quarter.

However, Colby could not capitalize on either turnover. Morrison also led the Eagles into Goodland territory with a 27-yard run before losing a fumble.

Colby put together its best drive of the night in the fourth quarter, advancing 48 yards in seven plays to reach the red zone. The possession ended on an incomplete pass on fourth down.

Goodland closed the scoring when Cure broke free for a 43-yard run before throwing a 19-yard touchdown pass to Chris Glass. The Eagles went three-and-out on their final possession.

Goodland finished with 392 total yards, including 243 passing and 149 rushing. Cure completed 15 of 29 passes for 243 yards and four touchdowns while rushing for 81 yards. Miller caught five passes for 158 yards and three touchdowns, while Glass added six receptions for 66 yards and a score.

Colby managed 86 total yards, with 48 passing and 38 rushing. Morrison completed eight of 26 passes for 48 yards and an interception. He also rushed for 45 yards on 11 carries but lost a fumble. Salcido led the Eagles with three receptions for 28 yards.

The Eagles converted three of 15 third-down attempts and two of four fourth-down opportunities, but were unable to score against the Cowboys.
