Larry Lynn White, 81, passed away peacefully on October 15, 2026, surrounded by his loving family at Hope Springs in Sharon Springs, Kansas. A devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, accomplished businessman, and a man who truly knew how to enjoy life, Larry leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, adventure, and a lifetime of unforgettable memories.
Born on August 23, 1945, to Lloyd and Lucille White of Colby, Kansas, Larry lived a life filled with determination, ambition, and an unwavering belief that life was meant to be enjoyed.
Larry attended the University of Kansas, where he proudly played both offensive and defensive football for the Kansas Jayhawks. He graduated from KU in 1969 with a degree in architecture, a foundation that would help shape his successful career. Combining his creativity, vision, and entrepreneurial spirit, Larry became the CEO, architect, and developer of White's Factory Outlet Center. His dedication to his business and community earned him the honor of being named Colby Business Person of the Year in 1991.
While Larry accomplished so much professionally, his greatest pride and joy was always his family.
Larry shared a beautiful love story with his beloved wife, Becky. Their story began during their college years. Although life initially led them down different paths, their story was far from over. Years later, fate brought them back together, and through Larry's persistence, charm, and determination, he won Becky's heart all over again. The two were married on November 30, 1991. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, family, and adventure. Becky preceded Larry in death in 2025, but the love they shared remained one of the greatest stories of his life.
Larry had a passion for living, and he made even the ordinary moments extraordinary. He loved to travel, explore new places, and turn just about anything into an adventure. Larry especially loved spending time on the water, and many of his travels included deep-sea fishing excursions. There was something about the open ocean, the anticipation of the next big catch, and the thrill of the adventure that he couldn't resist. For Larry, fishing was never just about what he caught, but about the experience and the memories made along the way. Yet no matter how far his travels took him or how many adventures he chased, he always found his greatest comfort at home, especially on his beloved farm.
And then there was Larry's cooking. Anyone fortunate enough to sit at his table knew they were in for something special. He loved to cook, and everything he made seemed to be incredible — especially his famous homemade French fries. His kitchen was often left looking like a tornado had passed through, but the meal was always worth the mess. And if you ever asked him for a recipe, good luck. Larry didn't believe in measuring cups or written instructions. A little of this, a little of that, and somehow it always turned out perfectly.
That was Larry. He did things his own way, and more often than not, his way turned out pretty wonderful.
He loved his children, he adored his wife, and he embraced life with a spirit that was uniquely his. He believed in working hard, enjoying the journey, and finding happiness in the people and places that mattered most. Whether he was building something, cooking, fishing, traveling, or simply enjoying time at the farm, Larry understood that life's greatest treasures weren't things — they were experiences, memories, and the people you shared them with.
Larry was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Becky White; his parents, Lloyd and Lucille White; and his sister, Shirley Bourquin.
He is survived by his five children: Aaron (Valerie) White of Eudora, Kansas; Devon (Michael) Meyer of Colby, Kansas; Kim (Marvin) Hunter of Topeka, Kansas; Layne (Scott) Sitton of Salina, Kansas; and Tyler (Kelly) Wolfe of Manhattan. He also leaves behind 18 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Larry is also survived by his brother, Bill (Nancy) White; and his sister, Debbie (Bob Payne), along with many extended family members and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
Larry often said that "the definition of success in life is happiness." By that measure, Larry Lynn White was an incredibly successful man.
He built a career he could be proud of, married the love of his life, raised a family he adored, traveled, fished, cooked, laughed, and made memories that will be shared for generations.
