Light 3.3-Magnitude Earthquake Shakes Stockton Late Sunday

ree

In the early morning hours of September 8, 2025, a magnitude 3.3 earthquake rattled Stockton, Kansas. The USGS-verified quake occurred at 02:50:27 UTC (9:50 PM local time Sunday) just over 3 miles north of downtown Stockton, at a shallow depth of 12 km.

Residents across Rooks County reported feeling the tremor—from Glade to other nearby communities—describing it as a “pretty good shake.” KSN meteorologist Lisa Teachman confirmed the event on-air, noting the quake’s rare occurrence in the area.

While not unusual in the greater Kansas–Oklahoma region, where induced seismic activity has been increasing in recent years, such a magnitude remains relatively light. Still, it’s a valuable reminder to check in with your neighbors, review emergency plans, and stay tuned for updates.
