Oakley went 2-0 at the Norton Tri sweeping the host Bluejays & Russell

Hoxie finished 2-1 at the Plainville quad. Lady Indians were swept by Plainville but won in straight set over Smith Center & Ellis

Goodland Quad: Goodland swept Colby & W/G while Colby won 2-0 over W/G.

Dighton Quad: Dighton finished 3-0. Wallace County went 2-1. Greeley County went 1-2. Triplains went 0-3.

The seventh-ranked Colby Community College volleyball team looks to bounce back tonight when the Trojans host Butler at the Colby Event Center. Colby enters 15-and-4 overall and 6-and-1 in conference play after having its September winning streak snapped at Dodge City. First serve against Butler is set for 6 o’clock.

At the Oberlin-Decatur Cross Country Invitational, Hoxie won the girls team title, edging Norton by four points, while Oakley finished third. Norton’s Emma Collins was the individual champion. On the boys side, Norton won the team title, followed by Oakley and Goodland. Oakley’s Jethro Crisler captured the individual championship.

Colby Community College sophomore Alexandre LeRoy has been named the KJCCC Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week. LeRoy led the 10th-ranked Trojans at the Gans Creek Classic in Missouri, finishing 12th out of 257 runners with a personal-best 8K time of 25 minutes, 26 seconds. Colby finished 10th out of 21 teams at the meet.

Fort Hays Tech Northwest has added Parker Jones to its men’s basketball coaching staff. With the Tigers, Jones will focus on player development, accountability and leadership, while mentoring student-athletes both on and off the court.

Colorado is expected to make a change at quarterback this weekend. ESPN reports the Buffaloes are expected to start Isaac Wilson against 12th-ranked Texas Tech on Saturday, replacing Julian Lewis. Wilson, the Utah transfer and younger brother of NFL quarterback Zach Wilson, would make his first start for Colorado. The Buffs host Texas Tech Saturday night in Boulder.

BASEBALL

Major League Baseball’s postseason got underway Tuesday with four Wild Card Series openers. Atlanta rallied to beat Philadelphia 5-3 to grab the early edge in that series, while the White Sox went into Houston and knocked off the Astros 6-3. In the Bronx, the Yankees dominated rival Boston 9-0, shutting out the Red Sox to take Game One. And in the late National League matchup, San Diego jumped out and ran away from Chicago to take game one. Game twos are scheduled for today
