Rex Leon Buford, 82, of Colby, died Monday, August 31, 2026. He was born August 11, 1944, in Colby, KS to Charles and Josephine (Hatcher) Buford. Rex married Priscilla Kowalke on April 10, 1964, and they were married for 50 years before her passing. Rex worked in the sanitation department for the City of Colby for 41 years before retiring.


He was a hard worker and never sat idle long, so he then started doing lawn care. He also loved caring for his large garden. Rex was an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially bow hunting and bow fishing. He participated in many bow fishing tournaments. He and his oldest son are the record holders for most wins at the Norton Carp Derby. He also enjoyed playing pool, league bowling, playing cards and games and spending time with his grandchildren. He spent many hours at the Senior Progress Center in Colby playing cards.


He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Priscilla and siblings, Rick, Ray and Rena.

He is survived by his children, Phil (Radonda) Buford, Donna (Victor) Schroeder, Danny Buford, Christina (Gilbert) Rivera and Rose (Gabe) Lile; grandchildren, Dakota Buford, Keagan Buford, Kaleb, Bowen and Behrec Rivera and Kyle and Ivy Lile; and brother Ray (Mary) Buford.
