Scares for a Cause: Oakley’s Haunted Shop Helps Support Local FFA

Some Oakley FFA students are trading their farm clothes for scary costumes this Halloween, and their latest assignment is pretty simple: make people scream.
After spotting the Haunted Shop while visiting Oakley for Boo at the Businesses, NWKS Radio’s Kristina caught up with Oakley FFA students Cody Anderson and Trey Collins to find out what’s lurking inside.
Their description? Creepy masks, costumed students and plenty of opportunities to catch visitors off guard.
“We dress up with scary costumes and pretty cool masks,” one of the students explained. “We just get stationed around the shop and wait for people to come by and sneak up on them and scare them.”
In other words, if you think that figure in the corner is just a decoration, you might want to keep an eye on it.
The students said the Haunted Shop’s organizers are donating a portion of this year’s proceeds to Oakley FFA. Chapter members have been helping bring the attraction to life, spending Friday and Saturday nights in costume and putting their scare skills to work.
And yes, they’re enjoying themselves.
“My favorite part about scaring people is watching them scream and run away because they don’t know who you are,” one student said.
Behind those masks, though, are students who value the opportunities FFA provides, from hands-on agricultural experiences to judging competitions and learning new skills.
“FFA means quite a bit to me because I actually am a farmer,” one of the students shared. “After school today, I’m going to go out and pick corn with my father.”
That makes for quite a fall schedule: help harvest the corn, then help harvest a few screams.

The students also talked about the fun experiences, competitions and learning opportunities that come with being part of the organization. Helping at the Haunted Shop gives them another way to get involved while raising money for their chapter.
For anyone ready to put their bravery to the test, the students described the Haunted Shop’s location as near the grocery store, one block west of Main Street in Oakley at 118 W. 2nd.
The Haunted Shop is open on Saturday from 3 to 5 pm for a Kids Matinee (or adults that don't want to be too scared) and then from 7 to 10 pm for your regular scares! At time of publication, being open Friday Oct 30th was not decided yet. Watch their Facebook page: The Haunted Shop for more information!
Stop by for a scare and help support Oakley FFA. Just remember: the students may be happy to see you, but they’re probably hoping you’ll scream when you see them.
