UPDATE: Three Suspects in Custody, Six Still at Large Following Sherman County I-70 Incident

SHERMAN COUNTY, Kan. - Three of the nine suspects who fled from law enforcement following an attempted traffic stop on Interstate 70 in eastern Sherman County are now in custody, but the search continues for the remaining six.

According to the latest update from Sherman County law enforcement at approximately 11:30 p.m. CDT, authorities have apprehended three suspects. Officials say they will be scaling back some operations overnight to allow personnel to rest, but officers will continue searching throughout the evening for the six suspects who remain at large.

The incident began around 12:44 p.m. CDT when law enforcement attempted a traffic stop on Interstate 70 near Sherman County Road 26. During the stop, nine suspects fled on foot, heading both north and south from the interstate.

Throughout the day, multiple law enforcement agencies searched the area near Interstate 70 mile marker 24 and Sherman County Road 26, just south of the interstate. Earlier in the afternoon, authorities said the suspects were believed to be Hispanic males and warned area residents to remain alert, noting the suspects could be dangerous and may attempt to steal weapons, personal property, or vehicles.

Residents in eastern Sherman County are still encouraged to remain vigilant. If you see anyone or any vehicle that appears suspicious or out of place, do not approach them. Instead, call 911 immediately and provide as much information as possible.
