What's Happening Around Northwest Kansas: August 18-23


It's another busy week around northwest Kansas! From festivals and fundraisers to airplanes, race cars, live music, golf, and plenty of activities for the kids, there's a lot happening across the NWKS Radio listening area.


Here's a look at some of the events coming up this week.


Tuesday, August 18

Dine Out for Kids – Play 315 Fundraiser in Colby

Eating out can help build a playground! Several Colby restaurants are participating in Dine Out for Kids, with a percentage of Tuesday's sales donated to the Play 315 Playground Renovation Project at Colby Public Schools. Participating restaurants include Pizza Hut, Meadow Lake Country Club & Golf Course, B-Hive, Jimmy John's, Sonic and Runza.


Thursday, August 20

Blood Drive in Goodland

The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive beginning at 1 p.m. at the Methodist Church in Goodland. Appointments can be scheduled through RedCrossBlood.org using the keyword "Goodland."


Game Night in Colby

Game Night returns to the Colby Housing Authority at 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome to stop by and join the fun.


Cooper Barn Jams in Colby

Enjoy an evening of music at the historic Cooper Barn! Cooper Barn Jams runs from 8 to 11 p.m. and is open to everyone.


Friday, August 21

Heartland Christian School Golf Tournament

Golfers will take to Meadow Lake Golf Course in Colby for the Heartland Christian School Golf Tournament. The event is a four-person scramble, with teams encouraged to contact Heartland Christian School to sign up.


Sandy Wilson Retirement Reception

Colby Lumber is celebrating Sandy Wilson and her 25 years of dedicated service with a retirement reception from 3 to 5 p.m. at Colby Lumber.


Sunflower Festival Begins in Colby

A big weekend in Colby gets underway Friday evening with the Sunflower Festival! Friday's activities include Brewfest, a DJ, food trucks and Dallas Pryor in concert at Fike Park.


Saturday, August 22

Saturday is PACKED with events across northwest Kansas!


Sunflower Festival in Colby

The Sunflower Festival continues Saturday with a full day of activities including a Color Run, sand volleyball, Car Show and Shine, vendors, food trucks, kids activities, cornhole, horseshoes and more.


Runway Revelry Fly-In in Goodland

Celebrate America, aviation and emergency responders at the Goodland Municipal Airport. Runway Revelry includes a free pancake breakfast from 7 to 9 a.m. Mountain Time, aircraft displays, fly-bys, flour bombing, an RC demonstration, emergency response vehicles, a DJ, food trucks and more.


Colby High School Tennis Car Wash

Get the vehicle cleaned while supporting Colby High School Boys and Girls Tennis. Their 13th annual car wash runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Kansas Quick Wash. The car wash is by free-will donation.


Touch A Truck in Colby

Kids can get an up-close look at some pretty cool vehicles during the Thomas County Sheriff's Office Touch A Truck event. It runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Colby Event Center and includes Touch A Truck, car seat safety checks and a chance to meet local heroes.


Joyful Blessings Free Lunch in Colby

Everyone is invited to a free lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Colby. Bring a friend and enjoy lunch with the community.


CCC Elite Basketball Camp

The Colby Community College men's basketball program will host its 2026 Elite Camp from noon to 3 p.m. at the Colby Event Center. The camp is for high school prospects in the graduating classes of 2027 through 2030 and gives players an opportunity to work with Trojan coaches and players.


Benefit Supper in McDonald

A free-will donation benefit supper for Jnel Hubbard will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the McDonald Senior Center. The evening will include pulled pork, chips, salads and desserts, along with raffles, with proceeds helping offset expenses as she seeks cancer therapy.


Goodland Raceway – Bill Gray Memorial/Championship Night

Racing takes over Goodland Raceway Saturday and Sunday for the Bill Gray Memorial and Championship Night weekend. Saturday hot laps begin at 5:30 p.m. Mountain Time, with racing continuing Sunday.


Sunday, August 23

Back to School Ice Cream Social in Colby

The Colby Rowdy Grannies are hosting a Back to School Ice Cream Social from 4 to 6 p.m. at Fike Park. A free-will donation is encouraged, with proceeds going to support students. In case of rain, the event will move to the American Legion.


Goodland Raceway

The Bill Gray Memorial and Championship Night weekend continues Sunday at Goodland Raceway, with hot laps beginning at 4:30 p.m. Mountain Time.


Spiritual Warfare Camp in Colby

A four-day Spiritual Warfare Bootcamp begins Sunday evening at the Colby Event Center. Christian authors Steven Hemphill and Charli Caraway will present nightly at 7 p.m. August 23 through 26.
