August 4, 2025 | Thomas County, KS – A Colby man was killed in a two-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon just north of Colby on Kansas Highway 25.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 12:02 p.m. on August 3 at milepost 197.4 on K25 — about 1.2 miles north of interstate 70.
Troopers say a 2006 Toyota Prius, driven by 32-year-old Laura Kern of Colby, was traveling northbound on K25 and slowing to make a left turn into a private drive. As Kern began to turn, a southbound 1991 Kawasaki motorcycle collided with the right side of her vehicle.
The motorcyclist, 62-year-old Duane D. Kriegshauser of Colby, was not wearing a helmet and suffered fatal injuries in the crash. He was transported to Citizens Medical Center, where he was later pronounced deceased. Kern was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured in the collision.
The motorcycle was removed from the scene by S & M Towing. No charges have been filed at this time, and the incident remains under investigation.
Our thoughts remain with the family and the Colby community during this difficult time.
