David Joseph Hirsch

March 16, 1954 — August 16, 2025
Fort Collins, CO
David Joseph Hirsch, age 71, of Fort Collins, CO, passed away on August 16, 2025, in Burlington, CO.
Dave was born in Loveland, CO on March 16, 1954, to Joseph and Barbetta Hirsch. David spent his youth visiting his father’s barber shop and even picked up playing the accordion! Dave graduated from Loveland High School. He went on to enlist in the United States Navy but was honorably discharged in bootcamp due to a lung birth defect. Dave began working at Hewlett Packard as a clean room technician making semiconductors and computer chips; a career that he retired from nearly 30 years later.
David met his future wife, Peggy Schow, in Fort Collins while she was visiting her little sister at college. Their first date was going to see the movie Grease. Not used to driving in Denver, the big city, he ran over the median which she gave him a hard time about that for some time! Dave and Peggy wed on September 12, 1981. They made their home Fort Collins, purchasing a house that would be their home for the next 39 years!
Dave and Peggy welcomed their daughter, Kayla in 1986. They were involved in all her activities from academics to dance to allowing her to redecorate their house numerous times! Dave reassured everyone it all paid off since she ended up becoming an interior designer!
Dave devoted much of his later years to being Peggy’s caregiver during her ovarian cancer battle, a true testament to selflessness and sacrifice.
One of Dave’s greatest highlights was his granddaughter, Hazel, who he lovingly referred to as “Buttercup”.
Dave had agreed to move to Burlington, CO where Kayla, her husband, Michael and Hazel resided. Although only a short time, having him near was comforting.
Dave leaves behind his daughter, Kayla McCullough, son-in-law, Michael McCullough and granddaughter, Hazel. Additionally, his sister-in-law, Debbie Hale, brother-in-law, Don Hale and nephews, Derek and Dylan Hale, as well as numerous close friends.
Dave loved everything with numbers including the stock market, the Rolling Stones and never met a chocolate cake he didn’t like! May his strength, love and dedication live on through his loved ones!
