Doris Arlene Venden

Doris Arlene (Rhoads) Venden, 86, passed away on Sunday November 2, 2025 at UC Memorial Hospital Central in Colorado Springs, Colorado surrounded by family. Doris was a resident of Colorado Springs, Colorado, but was originally from Goodland, Kansas.

Doris was born on December 14, 1938 at the family farm near Goodland, Kansas to Edwin A. and Lillie Anna (Melstrom) Rhoads. Doris was the youngest of two half-sisters and seven additional children. Doris attended school in Goodland, Kansas and graduated from Sherman County High School in 1956.

On September 27, 1959, Doris married Darwyn “Buck” Venden in Goodland, Kansas. To this union, a boy (Erick), and two girls (Virginia and Rebekkah) were born. Doris completed some college education and worked for a time as a real estate agent. But, due to Doris’ husband’s long career in the United States Air Force, her main devotion was in support of his service and maintaining stability within her family through the numerous relocations. Doris was also a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where she found comfort and hope in her faith in Jesus. Doris enjoyed gathering with her family during the holidays, gardening, working with ceramics, and she especially loved travelling all over the world.

Doris is preceded in death by her husband (Darwyn Venden), her daughter (Virginia Broussard), her two grandsons (Taylor Broussard and Aaron Venden), her parents, infant twin brothers, her two half-sisters (Adelaide Rockwell and Juanita Shahan), her sisters (Lucille McCall, Ethel Russell, and Nora Mock), four brother in-laws (Harry McCall, Roy Russell, William “Bill” Mock, and Dale Stephens), her granddaughter’s husband (Michael Maslowski), and her beloved canine companion (Crissy).

Doris is survived by her son (Erick Venden-wife Endang), her daughter (Rebekkah Fournier-husband Troy), her son-in-law (Steven Broussard), and her grandson’s wife (Michaela Venden). Doris is also survived by seven grandchildren (Hartini Gillard-husband Adam, Dewi Maslowski, Arjuna Venden, Alexandria Broussard-husband Jon, Samantha Broussard, Brook Fournier, and Drew Fournier-husband Michael). Doris is also survived by a plethora of great grandchildren (Naomi, Elijah, Gabriella, Lillianna, Raeanna, Harlow, Declan, Alexandria, Raina, and Farrah), as well as one sister Iva Lee Stephens.
