August 17, 2026--- The Chiefs opened the preseason with a 20-12 loss to the Rams Saturday at Arrowhead Stadium. With Patrick Mahomes sitting out, Justin Fields got the start before rookie Garrett Nussmeier took over. Kansas City couldn't find the end zone, settling for four Harrison Butker field goals, including one from 59 yards. The Chiefs led entering the fourth quarter, but Rams rookie quarterback Ty Simpson threw a pair of late touchdown passes to complete the comeback.

The Broncos opened the preseason in impressive fashion Friday night, rolling past the Falcons 27-7 in Atlanta. With Bo Nix sitting out, Jarrett Stidham got the start and threw for 131 yards and a touchdown as Denver built a 24-0 halftime lead. The Broncos also forced two turnovers and held Atlanta to just 192 total yards.

Noah Cameron was nearly untouchable Sunday as the Royals shut out the Angels 3-0 to take two of three in Anaheim. Cameron carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning and finished with a complete-game one-hitter, striking out eight and walking just one. Michael Massey and Bobby Witt Junior provided the power with solo home runs, while Carter Jensen added an RBI single. Cameron improved to 7-and-8 as Kansas City now returns home to open a four-game series with the Athletics tonight.  Listen on AM 790-KXXX starting at 6 CT.

The Rockies’ offense erupted Sunday, rallying for a 13-7 win over the Giants in San Francisco. Colorado trailed 6-4 before scoring nine runs from the fifth through seventh innings. Adael Amador launched a three-run homer, Mickey Moniak drove in three, and Brett Sullivan broke it open with a three-run shot in the seventh as the Rockies battled back to take the rubber match and win the weekend series two games to one.  Their first against SF in 8 years.  Rox host the Dodgers starting tonight.

Kansas and Kansas State are both generating headlines as the season approaches. At KU, a group of young players is making a push for immediate playing time, led by freshman corner Trey Brown, defensive end Garrett Martin and offensive lineman DeAndre Harper. Meanwhile at K-State, former head coach Chris Klieman revealed he personally reached out to Collin Klein about returning to Manhattan when Klieman decided to step down. Klieman believes Klein was ready to become a head coach and says he’ll remain available as a sounding board without interfering in the program.
