Colby Community College volleyball has swept the first KJCCC Division One weekly honors of the season. Sophomore Ella Dridi was named Offensive Performer of the Week after recording double-doubles in all four matches, finishing with 64 kills and 55 digs during Colby’s 3-and-1 opening weekend. Teammate Anita Ferri earned Defensive Performer of the Week after collecting 71 digs across four matches. CCC is back in action on Thursday in Wyoming. 

The Royals’ winning streak is up to nine games after a 5-3 victory over Toronto Tuesday night. Salvador Perez drove in a pair, including the go-ahead run in the fifth, while Seth Lugo allowed just one run over five innings to earn the win. John Rave added an RBI single in the ninth as Kansas City secured its longest winning streak since 2017. One concern: Michael Massey left the game after hitting his head on the turf while making a throw. KC looks to make it 10 straight tonight with first pitch at 6 CT on KXXX. 

The Rockies finally snapped their seven-game losing streak Tuesday night with a 3-1 win over Washington. Hunter Goodman made an immediate impact in his return from a shoulder injury, belting his 35th home run of the season, while Connor Norby added an RBI double. Mason Adams was solid in his Major League debut, allowing just one run on three hits with five strikeouts over four-plus innings. Mark Manfredi earned his first career win in relief, and Jordan Romano closed it out for his 13th save.  Game three of four is tonight. 

Patrick Mahomes says he remains on track to start the Chiefs’ season opener against Denver as he works his way back from knee surgery. Mahomes hasn’t missed a practice during training camp and says his knee continues to respond well, although he’s not expected to play in Friday’s preseason finale. Meanwhile, Kansas City added some depth up front, acquiring offensive lineman Josh Ezeudu from the Giants for a 2028 seventh-round pick. Ezeudu has experience at both guard and tackle and gives the Chiefs another veteran option along the offensive line.

The Big Ten and SEC are moving to prevent professional athletes from returning to college competition. Both conferences approved rules barring players who have signed pro contracts or appeared on professional rosters from returning to their leagues. The Big Ten rule focuses on football, while the SEC’s includes athletes who have signed with the NFL, NBA or WNBA.
