Colby CC volleyball rebounded from a loss on Saturday with a five-set victory over Butler last night at the Colby Events Center. CCC took set one 25-21, then lost sets two & three 25-23, 25-18 before winning the final two sets 26-16 & 15-10. The 7th-ranked Trojans are now 16-4 overall & 7-1 in conference play. After an 11-1 September, CCC turns the page to October, where they will host Pratt on Saturday.

COLLEGE FB

Kansas State Athletics Director Gene Taylor will receive the National Football Foundation’s John L. Toner Award, honoring outstanding leadership in college athletics. Taylor has led K-State since 2017, a run that includes seven football bowl appearances and the 2022 Big 12 Championship. He’ll receive the award December 8th in Las Vegas, the same night Wildcat great Terence Newman is inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.


BASEBALL

The MLB Wild Card round is already starting to take shape. The White Sox completed a two-game sweep of Houston with a 7-3 win, advancing to the ALDS, while the Yankees also moved on by beating Boston 9-2 for their second straight win in the series. In the National League, Philadelphia stayed alive with a 4-3 extra-inning win over Atlanta, tying that series at one game apiece and forcing a decisive Game Three today.


NFL

Chiefs left tackle Josh Simmons remains sidelined with a bulging disk in his lower back, an injury that has kept him out of practice since August 17th. Andy Reid says the injury has affected the strength in Simmons’ leg, but he continues to make progress and surgery is not expected. Simmons is unlikely to play Sunday against the Raiders, with Kansas City hopeful he can return following the bye week against the Chargers.


Thursday Night Football features an AFC North rivalry as the Pittsburgh Steelers visit the Cleveland Browns. Both teams enter at 2-and-1, with the winner taking over first place in the division. Kickoff from Cleveland is set for 7:15 CT / 6:15 Mountain Time tonight.
