Goodland captured the team championship at Thursday’s Rawlins County Girls Golf Invitational in Atwood. The Cowgirls fired a 391 to edge Colby by five strokes, while Rawlins County finished third and Oakley fourth. Goodland’s Natalie Cure was the individual champion with an 82, while teammate Sadie Sederstrom tied Colby’s Alayna Hrnicek for second with a 92. Goodland, Colby, & Rawlins County will be back on the links Saturday at the Lakin Invitational.


Both Goodland and Colby went 1-1 on the night at the Goodland quad. Both the Cowgirls & Lady Eagles swept Cimarron but lost in straight sets to Holcomb.


Hoxie VB also split their two matches last night in Phillipsburg. Lady Indians were swept by P-Burg but won in three sets over Trego


Multiple teams in the area will compete in tournaments this Saturday:

–Decatur Community Tournament (Hoxie, Rawlins County, Decatur Community, Golden Plains, Brewster, St. Francis)

–Oakley Tournament (Cheylin, Quinter, Weskan)

–Wheatland-Grinnell & Goodland will play in the Scott City Tournament

Kansas State and former men’s basketball coach Jerome Tang have settled their buyout dispute for $12 million. Tang’s contract called for an $18.7 million buyout if he was fired based solely on his record, but nothing if he was terminated for cause.



BASEBALL

The Atlanta Braves are moving on to the National League Division Series, beating Philadelphia 6-2 Thursday night in the decisive Game Three of their Wild Card Series. Now the postseason moves into the Division Series beginning Saturday. Atlanta heads to Los Angeles to face the defending champion Dodgers, while San Diego visits Milwaukee. In the American League, the White Sox take on Cleveland, while the Yankees face Tampa Bay.



COLLEGE FB

A busy Saturday is ahead for our regional college football teams. Kansas returns from its bye week at 1-and-2, hosting Middle Tennessee at 11 a.m. CT, as the Jayhawks look to snap a two-game losing streak. Listen on FOC 97.9. Nebraska puts its unbeaten record on the line against Maryland for Homecoming in Lincoln. And in Boulder, Colorado hosts 12th-ranked Texas Tech in a Big 12 matchup. Kickoff is set for 5:30 Mountain Time on FOX. Kansas State has the weekend off.


NFL

The Cleveland Browns took over first place in the AFC North Thursday night, edging Pittsburgh 27-24. The Steelers rallied from an 11-point halftime deficit and tied the game with 1:42 remaining, but Andre Szmyt drilled a 56-yard field goal with 10 seconds left to win it.

A pair of big road tests are ahead for the Chiefs and Broncos Sunday afternoon. Kansas City puts its perfect 3-and-0 record on the line at Las Vegas in a battle of unbeaten AFC West rivals. Catch that game on 100.3 the Ride. Meanwhile, Denver takes a two-game winning streak to San Francisco. Listen in for coverage on Rocket 102.5 KLOE.
