Goodland’s Natalie Cure captured the individual championship at Thursday’s Cimarron Girls Invitational, firing an 86 to win by five strokes helping the Cowgirls finish second as a team with a 394, behind champion Syracuse. Colby finished fourth with a 428, led by Lakyn Sims in 14th with a 101. 


–Colby spilt their two matches last night in Holcomb. Lady Eagles swept Hugoton but lost 2-0 to Holcomb. 

–Hoxie picked up a pair of win at home sweeping Hill City & Scott City. 


THIS WEEKEND:

Gove County Classic - Grainfield (Rawlins County, Wheatland/Grinnell, Golden Plains, Weskan, Cheylin, Decatur Community, Quinter)


Colby CC at Shelia Worley Tournament in Sterling, CO. Take on Casper College & Western Nebraska, Friday & then Northeastern & Frank Phillips on Saturday. 



The Quinter boys had four guys finish in the top 7 led by Carter Pennington the Bulldogs finished first at their own Invitational yesterday, besting Hoxie by 23 points.  Hoxie did finish first in the girls race, topping Golden Plains.

BASEBALL

The Rockies were swept out of New York Thursday night, falling to the Yankees 10-3. Kyle Karros launched a 431-foot homer for Colorado, while Jake McCarthy added an RBI triple. But the Yankees broke it open late, highlighted by Anthony Volpe’s grand slam as part of a career-high five-RBI night. Colorado has now lost four straight overall and seven straight on the road and returns home tonight to open a series with Detroit.


The Royals hit the road this weekend for a three-game series with the Red Sox at Fenway Park. The Red Sox are battling for postseason position, while the Royals look to play spoiler and build off Wednesday’s win. First pitch Friday is 6:10 Central on KXXX.


NFL

The 49ers made history Down Under with a dominant 27-7 win over the Rams in the NFL’s first regular-season game in Australia. Brock Purdy threw for 205 yards and three touchdowns, while the San Francisco defense held Matthew Stafford and the Rams to just one score. More than 100,000 fans packed the Melbourne Cricket Ground, the seventh-largest regular-season crowd in NFL history.


COLLEGE FB

A busy regional college football weekend starts tonight with the Border War, as Kansas hosts 23rd-ranked Missouri. Saturday, Kansas State hosts Washington State on 100.3 the Ride, coming off a 71-3 season-opening win. Colorado looks to get to 2-0 against Weber State, and Nebraska goes for a 2-and-0 start hosting Bowling Green.
