Stanley Loyal Edmundson, 70, of Colby, KS, passed away Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, KS. He was born on December 10, 1955, in Scott City, KS to Marguerette (Musick) and James Edmundson.

Stan attended school in Scott City until the family moved to St. Francis where he attended St. Francis High School, graduating with the class of 1973. He then went to Colby Community College, where he majored in Business. For five years, Stan worked for Dave Jennings at the His Shop and worked nights and weekends at the Rusty Bucket. He started his insurance career at the Thomas County Insurance Agency, working there for 12 years before going to work with Darvin Strutt at F&M Insurance Store (later named Strutt Insurance Services) in 1992 until his retirement in 2022.

On August 14, 1976, Stan married his high school sweetheart, Cheryll Barnhart at the First Christian Church in St. Francis, KS. They welcomed their daughter Heather Ann in 1982. The family had fond memories of weekend trips to Trenton Lake and annual family vacations, which always included a stop at an amusement park. Stan also enjoyed cheering for his “Baby Girl” at numerus school sporting events. Once Heather went to college, they enjoyed tailgating with friends at K-State football games and have been season ticket holders for 26 years. A family vacation to Hawaii was also a highlight for everyone. Stan and Cheryll also enjoyed annual trips with friends to Las Vegas and Horse Races in Grand Island. Stan loved spending time with family and going to his grandchildren’s events. And most recently Stan & Cheryll just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Stan was active in the Colby community. He was a former president of the Colby Community College Endowment Board, USD 315 School Board Member, Buffalo Chip Committee member, CCC Miss Troya Beauty Pageant judge, active in Kiwanis, and a founding member of Pheasants Forever. In his spare time, Stan enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, and participating in sporting clay competitions, winning a Colorado State Championship one year and placing in several other tournaments.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings Stephanie and Steven Edmundson; parents-in-law, Jim and Mildred Barnhart, brother-in-law, Harvey Barnhart, and sister-in-law Kathy Edmundson.

Stan is survived by his wife Cheryll; daughter Heather (Aaron) Scott; grandchildren, Brynley and Kye Scott; brothers, Stuart (Nancy), Stacey (Sherri) and Staley (Tera) Edmundson; sister Starla (Fred) Williams; sisters-in-laws, Darla (Dave) Daniels and Janet Barnhart, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
