Tech Talk: School Begins and Projects Underway

Tech Talk 8-12-26

President of Fort Hays Tech Northwest, Corey Isbell, joined Lucas Kenney on the Good Neighbor Hour to talk about what's going on at the technical college. Some of those items include the beginning of the school year, a few projects students and the school have been working on, as well as an event coming up that local businesses in Goodland can take part in.

First and foremost, this past weekend, August 7th-9th, was move-in weekend for the on-campus students. Around 180 students made the trip to Goodland to move into the dorms and meet the friendly faces of the school staff. President Isbell thanked the staff that showed up during the very busy weekend.

"I really want to give a shoutout to our faculty and staff who would give up a weekend, and it's a long weekend, but it does make a difference. Being there when those kids come in, bringing smiling faces..."

Classes did officially start on Monday, August 10th, so school is a few days underway.

The next item Isbell brought to talk about regarded a couple of projects the school has been working on, including a building project at 1080 Main. This building, which has been in the works for a while, will be a multi-purpose building for the college and community.

The other project he mentioned was a passive house that is nearing completion. Students at the college have been working on an energy efficient house that will be up for sale once done. A second one will be in the works soon, but land is needed to start developing a plan.

"We're currently looking for a lot in the City of Goodland, so if anyone has a lot for sale we'd be interested. That's where we're at with number two for now, finding a place for it, and hopefully we'll act pretty quick once we find a space."

The last item Isbel talked about was the Main Street Crawl coming up in Goodland. The college will bring all their students to patrol up and down main street, checking out all the local businesses, and those businesses can sign up to be on the list to visit. This will be in the evening on August 27th.

"Tech Talk" will be on every second week of the month on the Good Neighbor Hour, which you can listen to every weekday morning on Rockit 102.5 KLOE from 5:30-7 am mountain time.
