Teen Injured in Thomas County Crash While Avoiding Deer

A 15-year-old Rexford girl was injured Wednesday morning in a crash north of Colby.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the accident happened around 8:00 a.m. on September 24, 2025, on U.S. Highway 83 at County Road 35 in Thomas County.

Troopers report that a 2019 Nissan Sentra, driven by Briella R. Knowles, was heading northbound on US-83 and attempting to make a left turn onto County Road 35. The driver swerved to avoid a deer, causing the car to strike a KDOT road sign before colliding with a power pole. The vehicle came to rest after the impact.

Knowles, who was wearing a seat belt, sustained suspected minor injuries and was transported to Citizens Medical Center in Colby.
