Two Injured in Crash East of Colby Tuesday Morning

The Kansas Highway Patrol responded to an injury accident in Thomas County on Tuesday morning, September 9th. The crash happened at 7:52 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. 24 and County Road 23, about four miles east of Highway 25.
According to the KHP report, a tractor trailer was making a left turn at the intersection. A 2014 Toyota Corolla driven by 28-year-old Horiana Xochitl Garcia Espinoza of Colby was slowing behind the truck. A 2015 Chevy Malibu, driven by 36-year-old Megan Marie Gaede of Hoxie, was following behind the Corolla.
The Malibu struck the back of the Corolla, pushing it into the north ditch. The Chevy came to rest on the roadway. Both vehicles were removed from the scene by Butch’s Body Shop.
Both drivers were transported to Citizens Medical Center in Colby with suspected minor injuries. KHP reports that both were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
Troopers note this was not a hit-and-run and there was no police pursuit involved. The crash was investigated by Trooper K87.
