Colby Lady Eagles Sweep Hugoton, Stay Perfect in GWAC Play

by Derek White

The Colby Lady Eagles are on a roll — and they’re showing no signs of slowing down.

On Tuesday, Colby hosted Hugoton for a home doubleheader and absolutely dominated, taking two convincing wins by scores of 15-0 and 13-2. With the victories, the Lady Eagles improved to 10-4 overall and a perfect 6-0 in the GWAC, holding a one-game lead over Cimarron with just seven games left in the regular season.

Game 1: Eagles Explode Early

In the opener, Colby’s bats were electric from the start. Ryler Carter led the way, going 3-for-4 at the plate with three singles and two RBIs. The Lady Eagles wasted no time, scoring six runs in the second inning alone to pull away early. Big hits came from all over the lineup — Jalyssa Sabatka and Sadie Cheney each added triples, Briley Kleinsorge smashed a double, and Myka Nolan picked up multiple hits.

On the mound, Carter was just as impressive. She pitched three scoreless innings, allowing only one hit, striking out four, and walking none. The defense backed her up perfectly, not committing a single error. Hailey Bolyard led the team with five defensive plays.

Game 2: Another Strong Statement

Colby kept the pressure on in Game 2, rallying from an early 1-0 deficit to defeat Hugoton 13-2. Briley Kleinsorge had a perfect game at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a single, a double, and another single. Hailey Bolyard drove in four runs from the seven-hole, while Sabatka, Carter, and Nolan each had multiple hits.

After Hugoton scored first, the Lady Eagles answered back quickly with a five-run first inning. Cheney sparked the rally with a two-run fielder’s choice. They added three more runs in the second inning and continued to build their lead from there.

Carter picked up her second win of the day, throwing four shutout innings with six strikeouts and no walks. Starter Karli Hills contributed a solid first inning, giving up two hits and two runs.

Once again, the Lady Eagles showed their defensive strength, playing error-free softball and locking down Hugoton at every opportunity.

What's Next?

With only seven games left in the regular season, Colby is looking strong to make a run at the GWAC title. They’ll hit the road Friday to take on Haskell County, aiming to keep their perfect conference record alive.

Stay tuned — these Lady Eagles are flying high and aren’t done yet!
