It took five sets, but Colby CC earned a hard-fought win over New Mexico Military Institute last night at the Cheyenne Invitational.  CCC took set one, 25-21, but then lost the next two, 25-21 & 25-23, before winning the last two sets, 26-24 & 15-8. The win improves the Lady Trojans to 4-1 overall on the season.  They will face Laramie County & Snow College today before taking on Casper College on Saturday.

Kansas football has its starting quarterback for Week One. Redshirt sophomore Isaiah Marshall has won the job over Cole Ballard and will make his first career start against Long Island. Marshall saw limited action last season, but flashed as a runner with 160 yards on just 15 carries. Lance Leipold has said both quarterbacks are expected to contribute this season, but Marshall gets the first opportunity to lead KU’s new-look offense.

The Royals bounced back in a big way Thursday night, pounding Toronto 13-2 to take two of three in the series. Jac Caglianone had a career night with five hits and six RBIs, including a two-run homer. Carter Jensen and Vinnie Pasquantino also went deep, while Noah Cameron allowed just two runs over six innings. Kansas City has now won 10 of its last 11 games and four straight series as the Royals head to Cleveland for a weekend series.  First pitch tonight is set for 6:10 CT on KXXX. 

The Rockies settled for a split of their four-game series in Washington after falling to the Nationals 7-1 Thursday. Colorado struggled to cash in its opportunities, going just 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position and leaving 13 runners on base as the Rockies fell to 52-and-82, clinching their eighth straight losing season. Colorado’s road trip continues Friday with the series opener in Atlanta.

The Chiefs and Broncos both wrap up the preseason Friday night with one final tune-up before the games start counting. Kansas City hosts defending Super Bowl champion Seattle, with Patrick Mahomes expected to sit as the Chiefs evaluate their final roster spots.
