The Rockies came up just short Monday night, falling to Baltimore 2-1 at Coors Field in a game interrupted by a lengthy weather delay. Jordan Beck gave Colorado an early lead with an RBI single in the fourth, but the Orioles tied it in the fifth and pushed across the eventual winning run in the seventh after a replay review. Colorado couldn’t answer late, extending its losing streak to five games.  Game two is tonight. 

The Royals return home tonight to open a three-game series against the Miami Marlins. Kansas City is coming off a 4-and-2 road trip and has won 12 of its last 14 games despite Sunday’s loss in Cleveland. Randy Dobnak gets the ball in the opener against Miami’s Tyler Phillips. First pitch is set for 6:40 Central at Kauffman Stadium. 

Kansas State is officially into game week as the Collin Klein era begins Saturday against Nicholls. Klein, who met with the media yesterday, said the Wildcats are still sorting through some competition on the depth chart, particularly along an offensive line hit hard by injuries. Still, he’s been encouraged by the players who have stepped up. Klein also said he wants quarterback Avery Johnson to play fast and confidently and let his competitiveness take over. The Wildcats host Nicholls Saturday night at 6 o’clock in Manhattan. 

Broncos linebacker Jonathon Cooper pleaded not guilty Monday to multiple charges stemming from alleged domestic violence incidents involving his former girlfriend. Cooper faces a felony second-degree assault charge along with several misdemeanors, and his jury trial is scheduled to begin November 10th. The NFL placed Cooper on the commissioner’s exempt list, meaning he can attend meetings and use the team facility but cannot practice or play in games. 

Former Kansas guard Melvin Council Junior has dismissed his lawsuit against the NCAA in Douglas County, but his pursuit of another year of eligibility isn’t over. Council dismissed the case without prejudice and his agent says the lawsuit will now be refiled in his home state of New York. Council is arguing that his time at junior college should not count against his NCAA eligibility clock as he seeks to play during the 2026-27 season.
