Tight Team Battle, Strong Individual Rounds Define Colby Eagle Invitational

by Derek White

The 2025 Colby Eagle Invitational brought together some of northwest Kansas’ top high school golf talent on a crisp spring day, with a competitive leaderboard and individual highlights that showcased the depth of the field.

In a dramatic finish atop the team standings, Goodland and Oakley tied with a score of 330. Goodland ultimately edged ahead in the tiebreaker, claiming first place behind consistent scores from all five golfers, led by Barrett Schlosser’s third-place finish at 78. Oakley was right there the entire day, paced by Easton Fink, who shared medalist honors after shooting a 75.

Scott Community took third overall with a team score of 341, led by Jackson Rumford, who tied for fifth individually with an 80. Rawlins County (369) and Colby (371) rounded out the top five, both demonstrating depth despite not cracking the very top of the individual leaderboard.

Colby's highlight came from Kaleb Dixon, who delivered one of the most impressive performances of the day with a 79—good for fourth place overall. Teammates Kade Youngman (93), Kieren Youngman (94), and Grant Stephens(105) helped secure a mid-pack finish on their home course.

Rawlins County also had a notable outing with Jeb Kastens tying for ninth place after carding an 84. He was supported by solid rounds from Eric Anderson (92) and Bryson Rall (94), keeping the Buffaloes competitive in the team standings.

Hoxie’s top golfer, Seton Scanlon, cracked the top 20 with a score of 90, while Brodie Tremblay followed closely behind at 91. Despite finishing sixth as a team, Hoxie’s consistency across the board showed promise.

Holcomb’s Luke Thyne earned co-medalist honors with a stellar round of 75, tying with Oakley's Fink. Though Holcomb finished seventh in the team standings (389), Thyne’s individual effort proved he's among the region’s best.

Oberlin tied Holcomb with a team total of 389, highlighted by a trio of 96s from Gage Williby, Koen Oien, and Caden Shaw. St. Francis, Ulysses, and Cimarron rounded out the team scores in the bottom third, but each squad had individual bright spots, including Kik Yanez and Carter Matthies of St. Francis, who each shot 97.

With postseason tournaments just around the corner, the Colby Invitational provided a perfect barometer for teams looking to sharpen their skills. The fierce competition, balanced team scoring, and standout individual rounds suggest the road to regionals will be anything but predictable.
