The Greater Western Activities Conference Golf Tournament at Meadow Lake Golf Course delivered a thrilling, wind-swept showdown on May 12 as varsity golfers from across the region battled tough conditions and a tight leaderboard that remained undecided until the final stretch. With high winds shaping the day’s strategy and execution, every shot counted—especially in the final three holes where multiple golfers were still in the hunt for the individual title.

In the end, it was Scott City’s Jackson Rumford who rose to the top with a gritty, composed round of 79, securing medalist honors. Rumford’s steady play stood out on a day when the wind punished even the slightest miscalculation. His victory also helped Scott Community High School to a strong second-place team finish at 352, just behind Goodland’s winning total of 337.
Goodland’s team depth was undeniable, placing four golfers in the top 10. Trent Sheldon led the Cowboys with a runner-up score of 80, followed closely by Blair Linin in third with 82. Braylon Mull and Barrett Schlosser added scores of 87 and 88, respectively, to solidify the team title. Treighton Hoss rounded out Goodland’s strong day with a 91, and Luke Thomas tied for 13th at 95.
Colby High School, finishing third with a team score of 380, also made a strong showing despite the blustery conditions. Leading the charge was Kaleb Dixon, who tied for fourth with Holcomb’s Luke Thyne at 84. Kieren Youngman (T13, 95) and Kade Youngman (T16, 97) added consistent rounds, while Cash Tubbs and Legend Finley contributed with scores of 104 and 111. Though not in medal contention, Colby’s team demonstrated promising depth under pressure.
Scott City showcased more than just Rumford’s standout round. Eli Lisenby added an 85 for sixth place, while Hudson Feely and Matthew Wheeler tied for 11th at 94. Drew Metzger and Junior Meza followed closely, keeping the Beavers competitive throughout the day.
The 6,450-yard course at Meadow Lake, with a slope rating of 131, is challenging under normal circumstances—but the stiff wind made it even more demanding. As players neared the final three holes, a tight cluster of contenders—including Rumford, Sheldon, Dixon, and Thyne—battled not only each other but the elements. Rumford’s ability to stay calm and close strong gave Scott City its top moment of the day.
With GWAC competition wrapped, Goodland walks away with the team crown, Scott City boasts the tournament champion, and Colby solidifies its status as a program on the rise. As postseason tournaments loom, all three teams look poised for more success at the state regional tournament at Sugar Hills Country Club in Goodland on May 19.
