Charles Henry Huelsmann, 86, of Grinnell, died Wednesday, May 28, 2025. He was born September 21, 1938, in Oakley, KS, to Henry and Louise (Baalman) Huelsmann. Charlie graduated from Grinnell High School and went on to serve in the United States Army. He spent his career working for the Grinnell schools as a custodian and bus driver and was a dedicated member of the alumni.

Donald Scott Phillips, 65, of Colby, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, May 29, 2025, after a long battle with cancer. Don was born on July 12, 1959, in Great Bend, Kansas, to Melvin and Joanna (Howe) Phillips. Don was the youngest of three children, and they were raised on a farm in Rush County, Kansas where it was early to rise to feed the animals and where he learned to appreciate nature. Don attended and graduated from La Crosse High School with the class of 1977.

Emily Jane Vincent, age 88, went to her eternal home on Wednesday, May 28th, 2025 surrounded by her family at Greely County Hospital in Tribune, KS. Emily was born on January 26, 1937 in Goodland, KS to Vernon Elmore Vincent and Francis Louise (Goebel) Vincent. She attended and graduated from Brewster High School in 1955.

Elaine Heussman, 88, of Atwood, died Sunday, May 25, 2025. She was the first-born daughter of Fred and Grayce Stute and was born in her grandmother’s home in Haigler, Nebraska, on February 18, 1937. She would later be joined by 4 sisters: Carol, Judy, Cathy, and Lori. Two brothers died in infancy.

It was brought to my attention that Kit Carson County along with 40 other counties across the state were listed on the Sanctuary County list released by the Department of Homeland Security. I don't know what criteria DHS used to compile this list or where they received their information but I was not conferred with on the development, criteria or purpose of the list. I have not had any contact with DHS regarding compliance with Immigration Laws or their Agents.
