At about 6:42 PM on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, the Barton County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a reported hit-and-run accident in the 100 block of Chisholm Trail. This location is at the extreme southeast corner of the city of Great Bend just outside city limits.

Jean was born on August 18, 1927, on the family farm north of Angelus, KS. She was the youngest of 14 children born to Barney and Regina (Robben) Dickman. She married Jim Rietcheck on November 4, 1947, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Angelus, KS. To this union five children were born, Ronnie, Dan, Jolene, Linda and Kay.

Mary Ann Meyer, 64, of Kearney, NE, died Saturday, September 6, 2025. She was born June 21, 1961in Ipswich, Australia to Neal and Patricia (Roach) Crozier. Growing up, her parents had a grocery store, and they used to put Mary in the shop window so she was safe and could watch everything going on outside. She loved to roller skate when she was young and was very good at art in school and choir, even joining the Ipswich Cambrian Choir.

The USGS-verified quake occurred at 02:50:27 UTC (9:50 PM local time Sunday) just over 3 miles north of downtown Stockton, at a shallow depth of 12 km. Residents across Rooks County reported feeling the tremor—from Glade to other nearby communities—describing it as a “pretty good shake.”
