Dick was the third of five boys. He had two older brothers, Arthur and Robert; and two younger brothers, Donald and John.

From ShermanCCF.org GHS Receives Grant for Outdoor Sports Cooling Equipment Goodland, KS — The Sherman County Community Foundation is pleased to announce that Goodland High School has been awarded a grant to purchase five misting fans that will benefit a wide range of outdoor athletic teams and activities.

The City of Colby is working with Midlands Contracting on the Water Line Improvement Project. This project was scheduled for fall of 2025 but will now be tentatively starting in 2026 and could take up to four months to complete. The location of this project is from Garfield to Franklin on Webster

Robert Wayne Coleman, 85, of Colby died Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at Citizens Medical Center, Colby. He was born in Bassett, NE on July 1, 1940, to Robert G. and Viola (Wyant) Coleman. Bob married Shirley Schutte on November 27, 1961, and to this union three children were born. He worked for Kansas Nebraska Gas for 35 years and retired as foreman. Carl Wesley McCracken, age 64, passed away Tuesday, September 16, 2025. Carl was born February 21, 1961 to John William and Betty Jean (Nation) McCracken in Olathe, Colorado. He grew up in Olathe, Colorado, and went to high school in Tushka, Oklahoma. Carl moved to Goodland in 1994, where he started his family. A Colby man was seriously injured Saturday afternoon in a motorcycle crash just north of Interstate 70, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol. The accident happened at 4:20 p.m. on September 13 along U.S. Highway 24, about half a mile north of the I-70/U.S. 24 junction in Thomas County. Troopers say 47-year-old Gregory J. A serious crash occurred late Thursday afternoon, September 11th, in rural Gove County. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the accident happened at 4:45 p.m. in the 1600 block of County Road 58, about 13 miles south of I-70. A northbound 2006 Toyota Tacoma left the roadway to the right before the driver overcorrected, causing the vehicle to veer across the road, enter the east ditch, and then overturn multiple times.

Rodeo week in Colby is never boring, but this year we got a little extra excitement before the coffee even kicked in. Thursday night, the Colby Community College Rodeo kicked off with all the barrel-racing, bull-riding action you’d expect. But by Friday morning, one horse decided that running barrels just wasn’t enough running for the weekend.

Arrests made in Fatal Hit and Run At about 10:30 AM this morning a Sheriff’s deputy stopped a vehicle near the intersection of Broadway at Jackson Street in the city of Great Bend. The vehicle matched the description provided by witnesses in the hit-and-run fatality from last night. Further investigation confirmed this was the vehicle involved.
